Last Tuesday we had the opportunity to listen to a talk from Dr. Elena Gkantzou, PhD, from the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and former Postdoc at the Institute of Technical Chemistry (TCI) about ‘Microfluidic technologies in biocatalysis’.

Being an expert in the field of microfluidics coupled with enzymatic catalysis, Elena could give us a broad introduction into flow biocatalysis in microscale, highlighting the many advantages and opportunities in this research field. She indicated what is important when working with microfluidic systems, gave as an overview of different enzyme immobilization techniques, and what equations and kinetics are applicable in those biocatalytic systems. Moreover, she brought some case studies from her own projects as well as a ‘real-world’ application of a microfluidic chemical plant in Japan.

We want to thank Elena for her time and great introduction into biocatalysis in microfluidics and wish her all the best for future projects! 🙏
